A family-run rural cattery operating since 1994 on a homestead between Warkworth and Puhoi, where cats roam the cattery during the day rather than staying caged. Individual and shared family units have heated beds and secure all-weather runs, and medication for conditions such as diabetes or kidney disease is given at no extra charge. Long stays of 30+ days are discounted outside the December–January peak.

Barndale was the perfect holiday home for our cat. Lots of room to move around, all day roaming inside a secure area, with lots of other like minded cats. He had never been to a cattery so we were very selective as to where we would leave him for a whole month. He was well looked after and came home a happy cat. Here we are again , no disappointment, awesome setup, and very friendly owners. As per the last few seasons, we are very happy with the outcome of the 2025 season, too, with Blueberry PYO at Shelly Beach Blueberries. We get lucky this morning, get perfect, cloudy weather, and manage to harvest over 13kg of beautiful blueberries.Thanks again, Shelly Beach Blueberries. Hope to see u next season. Robert

My cat had a wonderful stay at Barndale over the 2020/2021 summer holiday period. He went from being quite shy to being much more confident. I can highly recommend Barndale to anyone looking for a good cattery. Great value and they look after your cat as if it was their own.

Janet & her husband are so welcoming & Janet was always on point with emails when I had questions. The cattery is rural which makes it more interesting with farm animals around & views for our 2 girls. It also has great shade under large trees. Highly recommend.

I cannot recommend this amazing cattery enough! Being that it was my first time putting my cat into a cattery, i was uneasy about leaving my fur baby there as i knew my she didnt do well with other cats around, however as soon as i was greeted by Colin with his great sense of humor, his care for the cats and his knowledge about cats, it made it a whole lot easier leaving my fur baby there! Missy was there for 9 days, and she came back so much happier. Barndale is now going to be Missys second home whenever i go on holiday :) - THANK YOU Barndale for taking such good care of Missy. Barndale is worth the drive if you want your fur-baby taken care of very well!
