Very happy how the lady's at Strand Vet took care of our cat Black's. Super friendly staff, very clean and tidy. Highly recommended your pets being taken care of by the best. PS the lady with the glasses at reception needs a pay rise, immediately😁

⚠️⚠️Please read this before booking, especially if you’re a first-time pet owner. ⚠️⚠️ I took my newly adopted (from SPCA) 3-month-old kitten to The Strand Vet because he was suddenly fatigued, barely eating, and sleeping all day. This was his first ever vet visit, and mine too. Within 20 minutes the vet, who I later learned was allergic to cats, which already shocked me, told me they thought my kitten had FIP, a deadly disease with extremely low survival unless you pay for a very expensive treatment that has just been made available to public. They said they were “80–90% sure,” handed us Google printouts, and were literally reading off Google in front of us. They claimed they could feel fluid in his abdomen, which is a major sign of FIP, and immediately started recommending $800+ worth of tests and scans. I was already emotional and overwhelmed, and everything was happening too fast I took their word for it and paid for tests. I mentioned he had eaten slugs recently, which had made him sick, but they dismissed that instantly. I asked if they could at least try antibiotics first in case it was an infection. They refused, saying they didn’t want to “miss” this deadly disease. So we did the first blood test, which came back completely normal, nothing explaining FIP or a fever. Instead of reconsidering, they pushed for a more detailed blood test. Since they already had a sample, I agreed. That also came back normal. We had to ask multiple times to even recieve a copy of the results while they discussed it to us over the phone and insisting on booking check ups. Eventually a different vet stepped in, much more communicative and kinder, but she still suggested an ultrasound to check for fluid “just to be sure.” I just wanted answers, so I agreed. I ended up paying admission fees, ultrasound fees, and my poor kitten was shaved in four or five spots from all the tests. The ultrasound finally showed no fluid buildup at all. Only after all this did they finally prescribed antibiotics and let me treat him at home while still warning me that “it might temporarily help his symptoms but not a cure” they kept discussing palliative care if I wasn’t “financially capable” for the tests and FIP drug medications. Within three days of starting the antibiotics, my kitten was eating normally, running around, playful, and acting like himself. That was all he needed. Instead, he was put through unnecessary tests, fear, stress, and multiple procedures, all because they jumped straight to the worst possible diagnosis, one they were clearly not confident explaining beyond what Google said. My partner and I has gone through the worst possible pain during that week and even after my cat being healthy now we constantly worried if he might show symptoms of this disease. We believed what they said as they are medical professionals. Most of the workers there would talk more about their own cats or other cats rather than focusing on my cat that clearly was ill and not dying. They did not even break it to us gently during the first visit and just said as the cat is from SPCA, FIP common. As a first-time pet owner, the whole experience was heartbreaking. I felt judged, pressured, and made to feel like I wasn’t financially capable of caring for my own cat. I also somehow ended up speaking to four different people about the same case, all giving me different directions. Only the last vet actually cared more about my cat than the money. The clinic even gave us a full tour of all their rooms and facilities on the first visit, which I didn’t realise I was being charged for. If I had known, I would’ve preferred they just focused on my sick cat instead of showing me around. I’m sharing this so others don’t go through the same fear, guilt, and confusion I did. Please read this before booking, especially if you’re new to owning a pet. This clinic felt more focused on charging for every possible test than helping my kitten get better.

The Strand Vet team has done a phenomenal job with my Whippet girl. As a veterinary nurse myself, I chose The Strand Vet because of their fear-free environment and expertise with sighthounds. From the moment we arrived, the entire team was warm, welcoming, and incredibly professional. They not only met my expectations, they faaaaar exceeded them. Peppy received sooo much love – she didn’t even have the chance to get anxious ;). My girl is very sensitive to noisy and stressful environments and the team managed to provide a calm and relaxing environment for her. What really stood out was their exceptional knowledge around anaesthetic monitoring and their use of modern, advanced technology (capnography, ECG etc.). Sighthounds also get cold easily due to their low body fat but not at The Strand Vet! My girl was kept cosy and warm throughout her dental procedure with socks, blankies and Bair Hugger. Moreover, the vet Dr. Dowler assessed my girl at admission and gave me a heads up that my girl has a heart murmur which needs to be further assessed by a specialist. Although she was just seen by another vet the week prior, the severity of this got missed and I’m very grateful Dr. Dowler identified this issue. It’s very rare to find a clinic that combines such high-level clinical expertise with compassionate, individualised care. I truly cannot recommend them highly enough!!! Thank you for everything ♡

We recently switched over to The Strand Vet and I’m so glad we did. The whole team was really professional, caring, and went out of their way to make my dog feel comfortable. He normally doesn’t do well with vets or new people, but they were incredibly patient and attentive, catering to his needs the entire time. I felt reassured seeing how gentle and understanding they were, and it made the visit so much less stressful for both of us. Highly recommend The Strand Vet to anyone looking for a clinic that truly puts your pet’s wellbeing first
