Christchurch's dedicated after-hours emergency veterinary clinic on Antigua Street in Addington, covering pets when their regular daytime vet is closed. It operates overnight on weekdays (7pm-8am) and continuously through weekends and public holidays, taking referrals and walk-in emergencies rather than running a general daytime practice.

Our little dog had a heart condition and was not well over Kings birthday weekend. The vet Emma was so very thorough, kind, compassionate and explained our options very well. She never rushed us and she gave us enough time to farewell our beloved pet before she did her part. It was a very emotional day for our family and we are grateful for the service we received and are thankful to Emma for her care and kindness.

My experience with this place - and the staff was just exceptional in an utterly devastating situatikn with my beloved cat Billy. A member of the public bought him here where he recieved such thorough, attentive, humane and compassionate care - every staff member from reception, to nurses and the Veterinarian - you were all just amazing. Your compassion was evident in the way you handled my boy at every single interaction, your clear communication, and for supporting myself and Billy through ending his suffering - i couldnt have asked for better care. We took our boy( dog) in yesterday for he was hit by a car. We were seen very quickly and he had a thorough check over, Luckily nothing broken. Just a small cut on his face. He was very lucky. The vet Lucia- was so warming and kind to our boy while checking him over, giving him treats speaking to him with a gentle voice. She has good mannerism. I mentioned that to her when we left for her kind mannerism helped me feel less worried, as we all are when our pets need help. Thank you for making us feel informed and spoken too with compassion. Very professional, service by all there.

I brought my dog, Charlie, here on Sunday 06 July. He’d been seen by our Vet two days prior on Friday (suspected tummy bug). But he rapidly deteriorated over the weekend. This was my 1st experience with the A/H Vet Clinic. All the staff were caring during a really stressful and upsetting time. They kept him overnight for tests, and kept me updated. It became clear he needed surgery, to clear a blockage (foreign object). We picked him up 1st thing Mon for our Vet to do the operation. Then back to A/H for monitoring overnight. The communication between the A/H Clinic and our Vet was brilliant and meant continuation of care was followed. Thank you to all the staff who worked the shifts of 06/07 and 07/08 July 2025.

I’ve never been so let down by a vet clinic before. We rushed our cat to the after-hours on Sunday night because he was really unwell and needed IV fluids and proper care. The whole place just felt cold — every cat there was sitting in the corner, facing the wall, looking miserable in the cages. Our boy wasn’t eating, and no one even bothered to try and feed him or make him feel safe. After spending 2-3 grand there we went to pick him up Monday morning (because they were closing), the woman there told us, “It’s a really overwhelming infection, you should just put him down.” No compassion, no second thought, no attempt to actually help. Just that. He also pooed himself when they bought him in to us, not sure if he was scared or whatever, I felt like because they were in a rush to close they may have just thrown him in the cage leading him to poo and pee in the cage. And when one of the nurses came to clean him up she pulled a face making me feel like she was grossed out.. I mean you are a nurse getting grossed out just from cat poo.. maybe you shouldn't be working there. We refused to give up on him and took him straight to our usual vet — and thank god we did. They put him back on fluids, monitored him properly, syringe-fed him, and by that night he was eating, purring, and showing signs of his old self again. If we’d listened to the after-hours vet, we would’ve lost him for no reason. The lack of care and empathy from the after-hours team was honestly disgusting. I wouldn’t trust them with a single one of my pets ever again. We’ve now registered with The Cat Vet on Bealey Ave, and the difference is night and day. They actually care — they treat your animals like family, give them treats, speak softly, and make sure they’re comfortable. Plus, they handle after-hours care themselves, so your cat isn’t dragged around while sick or scared. They’re incredible, and we’ll never go anywhere else.
