Selwyn Rakaia Vets is a mixed rural practice in Dunsandel serving the Selwyn and Rakaia districts, with a small-animal arm alongside its dairy, beef and sheep work. Pet owners get consultations, vaccinations, desexing, dentistry and radiography, backed by a 24/7 after-hours service for emergencies.

The most caring and empathetic vets I have ever been too. I could not give all these vets at this practice enough praise for how they looked after my Squeaky Boy (Cat-17). From the first day we came in when his health started going down hill to when he eventually passed away. The empathy, kindness and patience shown was beyond any vet care i have ever come across. They gave us time and keepsakes - little prints of his paws and fur cuttings to keep, particularly for my son who was out at camp when we had to take the decision to euthanize our special boy. My son will treasure those and they gave him a bit of comfort and closure. I then received a hand written card in the post, so beautifully thought out, from the pictures used to the words written. Their care and skills are exceptional and I will not take my pets elsewhere if I can help it. Thank you.

Very Helful staff. Walked in at random for a tooth problem on my GSD and they took the time to help even though it was 5mins before close.

Thank you so much to Rachel and the rest of the team for their care and professionalism. Our dear old dog Bud ended up having to have 15 teeth removed and I was very worried about the process and the consequences of the procedure but he has been amazing. After the first 24 hours of recovery and getting over the anesthesia he is just back to being Bud. We really appreciate your care and passion for what you do.

Poor Miss Kitty had unfortunately had an accident,which required partial amputation. Phoned the vet and Thomas phoned my partner back and discussed in detail what would happen and a very reasonable quote. Appointment made for the next morning, and Thomas, the vet phoned to give update post surgery. Very impressed with the service, care and price to help Miss Kitty, who has high levels of anxiety. Recommend to anyone, as their price was $1000.00 less than thr local vet here, and they didn't have to be chased up to assist.
