The Cat Vet is a cats-only general practice on Bealey Avenue in central Christchurch, run by vets Ian Ross and Kate Arnold. It is the city's only feline-exclusive clinic and provides 24-hour emergency and critical care for registered patients alongside full medical, surgical and dental services.

I honestly can’t recommend Dr Ian and the whole team at The Cat Vet enough. They are the most caring, compassionate and genuine people you could ever trust with your pets. Dr Ian is not only an incredible vet, but an incredible human being too. You can see how much he truly loves and cares for animals! He treats our cats like they are his own. We trust him completely with both of our cats, Limpet and Ollie, because he is always honest, professional and so reassuring. Dr Ian doesn’t just care about the animals, he cares about the owners too. The other night our cat Limpet was having what looked like some sort of panic attack and we called after hours completely stressed and worried. Dr Ian knew straight away what was going on and instantly helped calm not only Limpet, but us as well. He genuinely put our minds at ease during a really scary moment and that meant the world to us. Thank you so much!!! Every single person at The Cat Vet has a heart of gold. You can feel how much they all genuinely care. We are so grateful to have such an amazing team looking after our cats and I honestly wouldn’t want to take them anywhere else. Thank you thank you thank you!!

Dr Ian and his team are the best cat vets in Christchurch, hands down. My experience with Dr Ian has been nothing but pleasant, even in heartbreakingly difficult times; he is not only a good doctor but an amazing human being. A month into adopting my senior cat Preston, he needed a hernia repair surgery, and Dr Ian and his team saved his life and gave me an extra year with him. Sadly, he passed a week ago. I brought Preston in to see Dr Ian, and he was patient with us and gave us the time to say goodbye, even though it was late at night. And I knew Preston was in good hands when we left him with the team. Now, a week later, Preston sent a lovely rescue into my life, and I'm sure Mr Snuggles and The Cat Vet will get along just fine. Honestly, you won't find a better vet for your furbabies.

Dr Ian (and his entire team) is worth his weight in gold. He is extremely knowledgeable, skilled and realistic, always putting the needs and wellbeing of our cat first while being clear, comforting and super friendly with us. Our cat’s health situation was a complicated one, but thanks to the exceptional care she received here, she happily lived another year. Thanks heaps team ♥️.

I don't know many vets in Christchurch because this one is so good, my kitty and I never feel the need to visit any other clinic. 100% cats only, very knowledgeable Dr. Ian, and his staff is the kindest. Recommanded for sure 👌

Took my cat Aslan here and honestly couldn't ask for a better experience. The vet and nurse were amazing, super gentle and caring. Aslan is usually scared of people. But she was surprisingly calm with them and that says a lot. You can tell they're real cat people. Highly recommend!
