What pet owners say
I don’t write negative reviews and am only writing this one, because it’s important. This vet is very financially predatory and takes no responsibility for making mistakes, misdiagnosing your pets and making them suffer. On 26/02, our dog was taken in for a consultation with the following symptoms - vomiting, loss of appetite and acting out of character. After a 10-minute-long consultation (which cost $215, somehow), the vet concluded that our dog had a gastro flare-up, and we were to feed him chicken and some probiotics. We followed the vet’s advice as we expected to rely on their professional competency. On 07/03 - 9 days later - the condition of our dog deteriorated - he lost 5 kilos of weight and wouldn’t eat or drink. The same vet finally had our dog X-rayed only to find out that he had a foreign object (a piece of toy) stuck in him for more than 9 days and he needed a surgery to remove it. Their initial diagnosis and prescribed treatment were wrong. The surgery was done in the most expensive manner - the vet charged a $400 afterhours fee without even advising us, and we ended up paying $3,300 in total. We paid. When we confronted the vet about them not doing their due diligence in having the dog properly tested to check for a well-known, common risk, misdiagnosing him and making him suffer, they completely refused to accept any responsibility for the mistake in their misdiagnosis and prescription. Their service was ‘rendered’, and nothing was guaranteed, except for our bill. We were grateful to the vet, because they eventually saved our dog’s life, and our boy is healthy now. However, as a multiple pet owner, I think that the way they treated our dog initially was unacceptable. The vet brushed us off, didn’t investigate the issue properly, misdiagnosed our dog’s condition and made him suffer in terrible pain for 9 extra days. As a medical professional, the vet should be held responsible for making mistakes in prescribing wrong treatment, and causing harm by misdiagnosing pets, which in our case resulted in our dog’s extended pain and suffering. As a business entity, this vet should be less focused on milking the owner and more focused on helping the pet. They should have been more transparent and informed us clearly about their fees instead of sneaking them into our invoices afterwards. Regards. Olya Hunter

I’ve ridden a long trail with Maidstone vets. As a kid, I lost a cat—they tracked her down. As a teenager, I had to put one down—they stood steady, kind and patient through it. Most recently, I had my dog fixed, and I felt supported every step. Now, I’ll say this plain: they’ve given me good service time and again, but the price tags bite hard, and the waitin’ can test a man’s patience. Still, when it comes to care, they don’t cut corners. That’s why I tip my hat, even while I keep my eyes open.

First time visiting a vet in Upper Hutt and the team at Maidstone Vet were absolutely fantastic. Despite our cat being a handful to manage, they were able to fit us in at short notice, treated us and her with kindness and compassion, gave us regular updates, and as protective cat parents we felt like she was in great hands. Thank you again for taking care of Luna!

The staff here are not only knowledgeable but wonderful. My girls and I loved that the staff recognized us and knew which cat was ours when we came for visits. A few months later I went back for flea treatments and they remembered us again and asked how our cat was doing. You make the experience personable and that means so much. Highly recommend Maidstone veterinarian and their team
